The Lorem ipsum text derives from Cicero's "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (On the Ends of Good and Evil), written in 45 BC. The passage was altered and scrambled in the 1500s to make it nonsensical. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor, discovered the origin in 1994. The text became a staple of desktop publishing software (Aldus PageMaker) in the 1980s and has been used digitally ever since.
Using real content during design phases causes reviewers to focus on the words rather than the visual design. Placeholder text prevents this distraction. It also helps maintain visual balance — real content often varies dramatically in length, while Lorem ipsum can be generated at precise lengths to test layouts. The generated text is pseudo-random Latin-like text, not meaningful Latin. It is not suitable for language learning or translation practice. Maximum count is 100 per generation to avoid browser performance issues. The word pool is fixed — very large generations may repeat words. This tool generates text only in the Latin script. For other language placeholder text (Hindi, Arabic, Chinese), specialized generators are needed.
